A single effective psychedelic integration tool can be a total game changer. Or as is the case in the integration game, a total life changer.
Different integration tools and techniques work for different people, so finding techniques that are effective for you is crucial to this process. As integration can be a lifelong process, investing a bit of time in experimenting with a few to find those gems is absolutely worthwhile.
So, today I’d like to share with you the integration technique of creating personal manifestos based on our psychedelic insights.
I’ll explain what it is and how it works, and then give you step by step walkthrough on how to do this. With some examples along the way so you can see the process in action.
A personal manifesto is a written or visual expression of one’s values, beliefs, and intentions. It serves as a guiding document that encapsulates the essence of an individual’s core principles and serves as a reminder of how they want to live their life.
Creating a personal manifesto or a set of guiding principles based on psychedelic insights can provide a tangible and actionable integration framework for daily life. As an integration method is something like a mix of values, affirmations and intention work.
Making decisions can be difficult. Keeping them in line with our higher values even more so. A personal manifesto can help you to overcome this difficulty.
For me the biggest benefit of manifestos is their utility and practicality for directing our actions. They can guide decision-making and help align actions with higher values and aspirations.
Drawing a mandala can be really valuable as a means to process and reflect upon your experience, but it’s probably not going to be very helpful when you’re trying to make a decision in your day to day life. Manifestos can absolutely help with this.
For example, say you encounter a stressful situation at work that triggers feelings of frustration and anger.
You refer to your personal manifesto, which includes principles of self-reflection and emotional well-being. With this as a guide, you take a moment to pause and reflect on your emotions.
Reminded of your commitment to self-awareness and emotional regulation, you engage in deep breathing exercises to calm yourself and recentre.
By aligning your actions with your manifesto, you respond to the situation with greater emotional resilience and a constructive approach to the situation.
Used like this, manifestos can help us to grow into the people that we want to be.
Sound good? Here’s a 5 steps on…
Here’s how to develop a personal manifesto based on psychedelic wisdom:
Firstly, reflect on the psychedelic experiences you’ve had and the insights gained.
What are the key themes, values, and principles that have emerged during these journeys?
Reflect on how these insights have impacted your perspective on life, and your desired path forward.
From the reflections, distill the essential principles that resonate with you the most. These could be overarching concepts like interconnectedness, compassion, authenticity, or self-transformation.
To start, I’d recommend choosing one or two core principles that you feel deeply aligned with. You can practice running through this process with them and repeat again for any more you’d like to add.
Now transform the core principles into clear and concise statements that express your intentions and aspirations. Use affirmative language to describe how you want to show up in the world and the values you want to embody.
For example, if compassion was a principle, you might write something like:
I choose to live with compassion and kindness towards myself and others, fostering a sense of unity and connection.
Or if it was environmental stewardship:
I take responsibility for the well-being of our planet and actively engage in actions that protect and restore the environment for future generations.
You might try to personalise these statements and phrase them in a way that is uniquely you. You can do this in any way that suits you.
The main thing is that the statement resonates with you. That when you read it you think ‘yes’, and feel totally on board with it.
Images speak to us in a way that words can’t. So it can help to add a visual dimension to our personal manifestos. Consider creating a visual representation of yours through collages, drawings, or digital artwork. Use symbols, colors, and images that resonate with the insights and values you want to express.
For example, you might use images of interconnected hands for compassion, trees for nature or environment themes, calming colours like blue or green to evoke serenity, or a meditating figure to symbolize peace or emotional well being.
Once you’ve created your personal manifesto, it’s important to review it regularly.
You might put a copy up somewhere you’ll see it regularly, like by your desk or the bathroom mirror, or a keep a copy in your wallet or purse. You might like to read it aloud every morning, or evening. Or revisit and reflect on it on your commute.
This will help you to reconnect with the intentions and values it represents.
If a situation in your life arises where one of your themes is present, you may like to bring it to mind and see if it can help direct your actions and approach.
To demonstrate, I thought it would be helpful to run through an example of how this process would work from start to finish, and include how it might show up in day-to-day life.
Because that’s where the work of integration is really done…
Let’s say Sarah has a series of introspective psychedelic experiences. In the reflection stage, Sarah identifies insights about the importance of authenticity and deep connection with others.
She distills these insights into two core principles: “embrace authenticity” and “foster meaningful connections.”
She then transforms these principles into actionable statements for her personal manifesto:
Sarah adds a visual representation to her personal manifesto. She uses symbols of an open heart to represent authenticity and interconnected circles to symbolize meaningful connections.
She regularly reviews the manifesto and keeps the themes in mind.
A couple days later, Sarah is invited to a social gathering. She doesn’t know many people there and this makes her feel a bit anxious about it.
Noticing this situation has a link to one of her themes of her manifesto, Sarah refers to her personal manifesto and reminds herself of her core principles of embracing authenticity and fostering meaningful connections.
With the manifesto as a guide, Sarah approaches the gathering with a genuine and open attitude. She intends to allow herself to be authentic and vulnerable in conversations. She actively seeks connections by showing curiosity and interest in others. She leans into cultivating genuine connection and empathy.
By aligning her actions with her manifesto, Sarah creates a space for authentic interactions and forms deeper connections with others.
Et voila! The psychedelic integration process is in motion!
Developing a personal manifesto can help you establish a tangible and actionable framework for incorporating psychedelic wisdom into your daily life.
You can refer back to your manifesto when you face challenges or choices, to help you make decisions that align with your higher values and aspirations.
Even whilst working with your own manifesto, remember that it can evolve over time as you grow and evolve yourself. You can revisit and revise your manifesto as necessary so that it remains a relevant and authentic representation of you.
Now you know how to do it, create the first line of your manifesto today!
